７月のトーナメント準決勝で、対戦相手の小林愛三（２３）＝ＮＥＸＴＬＥＶＥＬ渋谷ジム＝が規定体重をクリアできず、不戦勝で決勝進出を決めた佐藤。決勝はプライベートで仲がいい寺山と対戦「ジュニア時代に３回ぐらい試合をしていて私が全敗しているのですが、そんなに差はなかったんです。その時はお互いに首相撲主体の攻めでした。今は自分の方がプロ向きの選手になっていて、ジュニア時代よりも勝率は上がっていると思います」とアマチュア時代に全敗している相手に強気の発言も「対戦したくないね～とは言っていたのですが、まさか試合が組まれてしまいました」と本音を漏らした。
